DJ Maryam

DJ Maryam

What really made this DJ Maryam _or let’s call her by her real name MAHSHAR_ a phenomena in Iran is that she happened to be the first woman singer who sings solo inside the country and her music has been released through the internet so pirate copies are every where.
women singing solo is not allowed in Iran so women can only sing as a group or with a man accompanying them ,so that obviously made her unique and as no one really knew any thing about her, no image ,no information, even no idea of how old she really might be, so obviously there were a lot of rumors about her , people have given her several fake names that DJ Maryam is most common of them, and they were saying that she is in prison ,detained by the regime, there were even some fake pictures of her on the internet and even some fake videos were made and were broadcast on LosAngeles’s Iranian channels.
Another point which made her popular is her music, the music is an Iranian electronic techno music, dance kind of music, which we hear a lot but never with a woman singing it, there are women singing dance music outside Iran but not as daring as she does.
Her music is all over the city you can hear it in taxis in shops in parties , and you can buy it from peddlers ,that makes her eager to introduce her self, telling everyone her real identity so I went to talk to her ,she was a sporty18 year old girl claming that her music was stolen from the charity concerts she had for women which made her very upset ,what she said was that she started with singing religious music and because she wanted young people to communicate she changed it into techno .
coming from a religious family, she does not want to sing for men, she wanted only women to hear her music, that’s why the pirate copies made her angry and upset, and as a result of that she has sang a new song for the thief of her music called “THE PIRATE”, she has a new album right now including this song, that she wants to pass the process of getting license from the ministry of culture for women concerts only.
